KVPY Papers

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana abbreviated as KVPY is an annual scholarship program that is funded by the Department of Technology & Science, Government of India. KVPY is aimed at motivating students for pursuing a research career in Basic Science. Contingency and Scholarships are granted to the candidates who successfully clear this talent test (up to the pre PhD level). Every year, KVPY is conducted to search and select highly motivated and exceptionally talented students with unprecedented thought processes and capabilities. The main objective of this program is to identify and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in India. KVPY is organized and conducted by the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) Bangalore annually.

KVPY 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Stream SA

Due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, as a one-time measure, students who have passed X Standard Board Examination and are eligible to enrol in XI standard (Science subjects) during the academic year 2021-22, are eligible to appear for the Aptitude test.

The student should produce a study certificate of class XI class once they are selected as a provisional KVPY fellow.

 The fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (B. Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Math./ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. ) in the academic year 2023-24 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Science Subjects in the XII Standard /(+2) Board Examination.
 During the interim period of one year, they will be invited to the National Science (Vijyoshi) Camp and their travel expenses and local hospitality will be met by KVPY.
Stream SXStudents enrolled in XII Standard (Science subjects) during the academic year 2021–22 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S) during the academic year 2022-23.
 The Fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (B.Sc./B.S./B. Stat./B. Math./ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.) in the academic year 2021-22 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in the XII standard/(+2) Board Examination.
 Students in their 2nd year of study in Cambridge International Examination Board and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S) during the academic year 2022-23.

M.Sc./Int. M.S. during the academic year 2021–22 are eligible to appear for the aptitude test. The student should produce a study certificate of 1st year B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S once they are selected as a provisional KVPY fellow.
 The fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join an undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S) in the academic year 2021-22 and must have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in 1st year of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.

KVPY Exam Pattern

KVPY 2021 Eligibility Criteria

  • SA stream exam is held in the morning shift i.e. from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
  • The examination is conducted for 3 hours.
  • The test is conducted in two parts.
  • Part I = 60 and Part II = 20 questions.
  • The total number of questions in the SA stream is 80
  • It is mandatory to attempt all questions in all the subjects.
  • The questions are given in English and Hindi.
  • There are negative marks given for every wrong answer.
  • In part I, each correct answer is given 1 mark. For every wrong answer, 0.25 marks is deducted.
  • In part II, every correct answer is given 2 marks and for every wrong answer, 0.5 marks is deducted.
  • The total marks allotted for the question paper is 100 with a total of 25 marks for each subject.

KVPY Exam Pattern For SB/SX stream

  1. SX/SB Stream exam is held from 2 pm to 5 pm.
  2. The exam duration for the KVPY exam for SB/SX streams is 3 hours.
  3. The question paper is of 160 marks.
  4. Part I is of 80 questions and part II carries 40 questions. Students need to attempt only 80 questions in total.
  5. Students must attempt any 3 sections from part 1 (20*3=60 marks) and any 2 sections from part 2=(20*2=40).
  6. In Part I of SB/SX Stream, one mark will be awarded for correct response & 0.25 marks will be deducted for an incorrect response.
  7. In Part II of Stream SB/ SX, for each correct response, two marks will be awarded & 0.5 marks will be deducted for the wrong answer.

Examination and Selection Process

Candidates meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams will be called for an aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centres across the country on the set exam date. On the basis of their performance in the aptitude test candidates will be called for the next stage of the KVPY selection procedure. The second stage will include an interview round. Details such as the interview dates, times and venues will be communicated through email or the details will be announced on the website. After the completion of the entrance exam and the interview round, successful candidates will be provided with the scholarship.

Aptitude Test

  • Candidates are evaluated on their reasoning and analytical abilities.
  • Candidates should obtain a total of 75% marks.

Interview

  • Shortlisted candidates are allocated a venue for the interview.
  • The interview round is held primarily for acquiring additional information from the applicants with regard to their knowledge, abilities and aptitude, etc. in the field of science and research.

KVPY Syllabus

There is no specifically prescribed syllabus for the entrance examination as it is conducted to mainly test the analytical ability and understanding of candidates instead of their factual knowledge. In general, the syllabus of KVPY 2021 comprises of topics from Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry subjects. The question paper will contain questions from Class 10th, 11th, 12th or 1st year of MS, B. Sc, Int.M.Sc, B. Stat., B. Math. or BS.
